Tanya Schneider has been with Smith Law Offices since the firm started in January 2009. With over 30 years of administrative and legal experience, she is dedicated to helping clients to understand and navigate the legal process. She treats clients with dignity and respect, providing compassion through what are often challenging legal and personal circumstances. She is bilingual in English and Russian. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family and pets.

Is the adoption process complicated?It certainly can be. There are many different types of adoption cases, including grandparent adoption, guardian adoption, newborn adoption, and step-parent adoption. We work with all types of clients to help you efficiently get through this process.

What factors are considered when determining custody arrangements?Typically the best interests of the child or children are considered the most important factor in custody agreements. It is up to the judge if one or both parents will share decision-making power and who will have physical custody. They will look at the wishes of the child, their needs, the relationship the child has with each parent if there is any history of violence or substance abuse, and other elements of the child’s everyday life.

How will my property be divided in a divorce?
This is a matter we can discuss during your first consultation, but typically shared property (also known as marital property) is split up 50/50 between two spouses. A few exceptions may apply to your divorce case, depending on the circumstances, but it is best to speak with an attorney first.
